I'm going to talk about a stunning sky that appealed to me. It appeared in a small town, Lake Tekapo which is located in the south island of New Zealand.

The lake is a popular tourist destination. I travelled there with my parents and my husband at the end of 2017 because we heard that it had a very clear atmosphere with no light pollution. When it was completely dark after 10 pm, we went to a famous stone church beside the lake and wanted to take photos of stars with the church in the background. It was one of New Zealand’s most iconic photo locations and you can find such enchanting photographs online.

Many people were standing around and gazing at stars with their high-definition cameras. Luckily, there was no cloud which could cover stars. I was really fascinated by the dazzling beauty of millions of stars in the cleanest, darkest night sky. It was full of flickering constellations, as far as my eyes could see. It was like nowhere I had ever seen before.

Looking at twinkling stars, I imagined the rough shape of the Milky Way. And the moon only appeared partially. This was another luck because big moon could affect the clarity of the sky.

I felt excited and surprised that I could see such magnificent star scenery on naked eyes. And it made me more aware that our planet was not alone in the solar system. However, the night was so cold even though it was summer at that time. I wish I’d taken more clothes.
